Professor Ariyarathne Kaluarachchi

Emeritus Professor Ariyarathne Kaluarachchi is a distinguished Sri Lankan academic, dramatist, and theatre scholar with an illustrious career spanning several decades in the field of drama and theatre studies. As a senior academic and former university professor, he has contributed immensely to the academic development of theatre arts in Sri Lanka through teaching, research, and artistic practice. He also served as the former Vice Chancellor of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Sri Lanka. Professor Kaluarachchi has written, directed, and produced numerous stage productions while also publishing scholarly work on theatre, performance studies, and cultural expression. He is also a lyricist of several songs and has been a stage and television drama performer for several decades. He further served as the former Chairman of the Arts Council of Sri Lanka. His dedication to promoting theatre as both an academic discipline and a creative art form has helped shape the next generation of theatre practitioners and scholars in Sri Lanka. His contributions to the performing arts community have earned him widespread recognition and respect across the country’s cultural and academic sectors.
